INTERVIEW 01| Yura Choi

Q1|What is the reason for your visit to Japan?
I am thinking of studying computer graphics in a Japanese tech school. If I study CG in Japan, I can learn both Japanese and CG at the same time. That is why I want to enroll in a Japanese tech school.
Q2|Did you know about the Japanese kimono?
Yes, I did. I hear there are numerous colors and patterns. I’d like to try wearing lots of different kimono.
Q3|How was your experience of actually wearing a kimono?
I was delighted to have a special stylist help me wear the kimono. It was fitted so gorgeously and it made all the difference to have a specialist there.
Q4|Would you recommend it to your friends back home?
Yes, of course. It would be great if we can all wear kimono and take pictures together.
Q5|What do you think about the Japanese kimono culture?
I think it’s wonderful. Although it’s hard to move around in.
Q6|Would you wear a kimono again?
Yes. Next time I’d like to wear it somewhere that strongly represents the image of Japan and get a feel of the Japanese culture. Whenever I am near old Japanese buildings like shrines and temples, it reminds me of kimono. I’m very happy to have had the opportunity to wear a kimono this time. I believe there should be many opportunities to experience things like this.

Q3|How was your experience of actually wearing a kimono?
It’s tight-fitting. And not easy to move around in. I was getting a lot of attention so I got a little shy but it made me feel very good. I was even asked, “Where can I wear a kimono?”.
Q4|Would you recommend it to your friends back home?
Would you recommend it to your friends back home?
Q5|What do you think about the Japanese kimono culture?
I think it makes you feel special and it’s wonderful. It’s tight but it feels good and it also makes you feel sharp.
Q6|Would you wear a kimono again?
Yes. It’s not often that you have the opportunity to wear a kimono. I was able to walk around in a kimono but I couldn’t see Mt. Fuji this time. I’m hoping I’ll have the chance to see it next time. It might also be great to wear during cherry blossom (hanami) season or in the autumn when the leaves turn color.

Q1|What is the reason for your visit to Japan?
I plan for and MC at weddings for a living. Japanese weddings are wonderful and I was very interested. I came here because I wanted to study more about Japan. It is now four months since I came to Japan.
Q2|Did you know about the Japanese kimono?
Yes, I did. It’s my second time wearing a kimono. Last time was in Ishikawa Prefecture. There are so many different types of kimono with a variety of colors and patterns so it’s interesting. I’d like to learn more about it.

This is my second time wearing a kimono and it’s nice to be able to feel the heart of the Japanese people. It makes me feel like I am Japanese.

Since it was my second time, I was more careful. I thought it was quite a challenge to use the washroom. And I didn’t want to get it dirty because it is so beautiful, so it was like I wanted to eat but I didn’t want to get food on it. It doesn’t keep you too warm in the winter.
Q6|Would you wear a kimono again?
Yes. I want to wear a kimono and go see the cherry blossoms (hanami) because it is a very Japanese thing to do. I also want to wear it with my friends when they visit.
